Riptide Romance is a BKDKBK mermaid zine! From the tropics to the arctic and from the deep seas to the shallow rivers, this zine will follow Katsuki and Izuku as they explore the fantasical waters of their love!
General Application Guidelines
You must be 18 or older to apply to this zine.Before submitting your application, please familiarize yourself with the application guidelines listed here.🧡 By submitting your application, you are confirming that you are aware of and agree to follow our schedule and contributor guidelines.🧡 If accepted, you will be required to have a Discord and join our server. This will be how we communicate throughout the creation process.🧡 We are asking for 2-3 of your best works! Artists and writers are also encouraged, but not required to submit a portfolio. Your samples should convey the type of style and quality you wish to create for this zine.🧡 Applicants may apply for multiple positions, but will only be accepted for one.🧡 SFW samples are preferred, but you may submit one NSFW sample.🧡 Please include content warnings where necessary.🧡 Please refrain from using samples which include problematic content such as noncon, underage sexual content, scat, etc. If you have any questions about what not to include in your application, please DM us on the zine's official social platforms or ask us a question on Tellonym.This is not a moral judgment. No creator will be penalized for any content they create outside the zine.🧡 If you are accepted as a contributor, you will have the option of creating for the free 🔥 digital add-on as well, but it will not be required.In addition, please note that the Riptide Romance Zine does not condone the use of AI of any kind. This includes both in applications as well as in the work you will create in our project. If AI is present in any applications we receive, we will no longer take the app into consideration. If an accepted contributor is found to be using AI in their work, they will immediately be removed without compensation and their work will be removed from the final product. Writer Application Guidelines
🧡 Writers are required to submit two samples and have the option to submit an additional third sample.🧡 Each sample should be between 3,000 and 4,000 words.🧡 At least one sample must feature Katsuki and Izuku in a romantic relationship🧡 SFW works are preferred, but one sample may be NSFW as long as all content warnings are properly tagged.🧡 At least one sample must be a full and complete piece.🧡 Other samples may be excerpts; however, they must be able to stand alone.🧡 Links to social media threads will not be considered. If you wish to submit a thread, please format it to a document first.🧡 A link to your anonymous portfolio is encouraged but not required.🧡 Samples submitted via Google drive must have viewer permissions turned on. Any applications the mod team cannot view will not be considered. Please also ensure all usernames, signatures, or other indicating factors are removed or covered. This is to help ensure judging is as blind as possible.
Writer Contributor Guidelines
🧡Riptide Romance will be accepting 7 writers through applications.🧡During the onboarding process, writers will have the opportunity to indicate which section(s) of the zine they would like to create for (Tropical Oceanic, Cold Water Oceanic, or Freshwater). The mod team will do their best to assign writers to a section based on their preference. Writers must create a piece which fits their assigned section.🧡 Writers are expected to pitch 2-3 SFW ideas based on their assigned section for the mod team to decide between.🧡 Writers are expected to create one completed SFW work between 3,000 and 4,000 words.🧡 Writers are expected to create a piece which fits the theme. The work must feature Katsuki and Izuku as a romantic pairing. The work must also depict one or both of them either as a mermaid, or another aquatic-humanoid fantasy creature. (Such as a selkie, a siren, a naiad, etc.)🧡 Writers may create an additional piece for the free 🔥 digital add-on, but they will not be required to. Writers will be expected to provide an additional 2-3 pitches for any 🔥 work.🧡 Writers must adhere to the style guide for consistency's sake. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask a mod!🧡 Writers must share their works as Google Docs with the permissions set to allow suggestions for check-ins.
Page Artist Application Guidelines
🧡 Page artists are required to submit three samples.🧡 At least one sample featuring either or both Izuku and Katsuki is required. The sample does not need to be bkdkbk, but is strongly encouraged.🧡 At least one sample featuring mermaids (or another aquatic fantasy creature) is recommended, but not required.🧡 SFW works are preferred, but one sample may be NSFW as long as all content warnings are properly tagged.🧡 At least one sample must have a full background.🧡 At least one sample must be in full color.🧡 A link to your anonymous portfolio is highly encouraged but not required.🧡 Samples submitted via Google drive must have viewer permissions turned on. Any applications the mod team cannot view will not be considered. Please also ensure all usernames, signatures, or other indicating factors are removed or covered. Page Artist Contributor Guidelines
🧡 Riptide Romance will be accepting at least 13 page artists through applications.🧡 During the onboarding process, page artists will be asked to rank the three sections of the zine (Tropical Oceanic, Cold Water Oceanic, and Freshwater) in preferential order. Page artists will also be asked to rank which position they would like to create for. The options are:A) 1 SFW single page and (at minimum) 2 SFW spot arts for 1 writer
B) 2 SFW single page arts
C) 1 SFW spread or 2-page comicThe mod team will do their best to assign page artists to a section and position based on their preference. Page artists must create a piece which fits their assigned section.🧡 Page artists are expected to create a certain number of SFW pieces depending on which position they are accepted for (A, B, or C). Artists may also be asked to create for more than one section of the zine if their assigned position requires multiple pieces. This will not affect the total number of pieces the artist will be asked to make.🧡 Page artists are expected to submit 2-3 SFW pitch ideas for each piece based on their assigned section and position for the mod team to decide between.🧡 Page artists are expected to create a piece which fits the theme of the zine. Artists must depict both or either Katsuki or Izuku as a mermaid or other humanoid-aquatic fantasy creature (siren, selkie, nymph, etc.).🧡 Page artists may create an additional piece for the free 🔥 digital add-on, but they will not be required to. Page artists will be expected to provide an additional 2-3 pitches for any 🔥 work.🧡 Page artists are expected to conform to a B5 300 dpi template, color profile CMYK.
Merch Artist Application Guidelines
🧡 Merch artists are required to submit three samples.🧡 Physical merchandise examples are highly encouraged but not required.🧡 At least one sample featuring Izuku is recommended, but not required.🧡 At least one sample featuring Katsuki is recommended, but not required.🧡 At least one sample featuring mermaids or another aquatic fantasy creature is recommended, but not required.🧡 SFW works are preferred, but one sample may be NSFW as long as all content warnings are properly tagged.🧡 At least one sample must have a full background if you wish to create a print.🧡 At least one sample must be in full color.🧡 A link to your anonymous portfolio is highly encouraged but not required.🧡 Samples submitted via Google drive must have viewer permissions turned on. Merch Artist Contributor Guidelines
🧡 Riptide Romance will be accepting 3 merch artists through applications.🧡 Merch artists will have the option to rank which items they would like to create for during the onboarding process. The mod team will assign items to the best of their ability based on preference.🧡 Merch artists are expected to submit 2-3 SFW pitches per assigned merch item for the mod team to decide between.🧡 Each merch artist will be expected to create two SFW physical merch pieces and one SFW digital merch piece, with the possibility of creating more based on availability and if they so choose.🧡 Specifications for each merch item will be provided upon joining the server.
